Star Wars: The Clone Wars is coming back for a seventh season to finally finish the saga…

Dave Filoni took to the stage during the Star Wars: The Clone Wars presentation at Celebration to present new footage from the seventh season. The series is getting 12 new episodes on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which is set to launch in November.

Created by George Lucas, the show first aired in 2008. It followed the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala, while introducing major new characters like Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. The Clone Wars also brought fan-favourite Darth Maul back from the dead, and was loved by many fans, to say the least.

But it was never finished. The Clone Wars ended after six seasons — just as Ahsoka left the Jedi Order. A few post-season six episodes were later released as “The Lost Missions,” but the story wasn’t over. Now Filoni, who helmed the original series, will get a chance to complete that story.

Here’s the new trailer…

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 plot

Clone Force 99 (aka) ‘the Bad Batch’ of Troopers will be a big deal in season 7, as revealed at Celebration, and the Mandalorians will be on the rise, too. Not only will Darth Maul be going face to face with Ahsoka, he’ll also one again duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s been confirmed that Ray Park returned to mo-cap this, which is delightful!

Says Filoni:

“With Clone Wars, I will say there is a bit of pressure because, obviously from [the reaction to the new season], the people loved it. I mean, they grew up with it. It was massive. So I do feel the pressure of wanting to make something amazing for them, and I challenge myself to not take the easy outs in the story and not do simple things.”

It seems like the team are also looking at the show that Clone Wars once was, and trying to bring it in line with the quality of Rebels in its final seasons:

“We’re also working at certain points with some material that we had written in the past, and so I’ve gone back and looked at it because I’m a different storyteller, and I think a better storyteller now. And how do we improve things, you ask yourself. I mean, we do that every season, in all honesty, so, in the last season, Rebels should be significantly better than the first. And the same is true for Clone Wars. So now how do I take a show that we stopped making five years ago and make it better than it was? That’s the challenge. We’re not just recreating it. We are continuing it, and we have to make it better.”

“I’m happy for the opportunity to define these things and the end of this part of the Clone War,” Filoni previously told StarWars.com. “It also makes me reflect on all the people that I got to work with over the years. It reinforces the things I learned from George. It reminds me of the important elements that go into making Star Wars. So, it’s nice on several levels, and I think for the crew that’s still here that worked on Clone Wars, they feel that, as well.”
