A new instalment of Armistead Maupin’s Tales Of The City is coming to Netflix UK…

There hasn’t been a new instalment of Armistead Maupin’s Tales Of The City on TV since 2001, and Netflix has decided that now is the perfect time to bring it back.

A new 10-episode series will see original stars Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis reprise their roles as Mary Ann Singleton and Anna Madrigal. Barbara Garrick, who featured in the 1994 miniseries, is also returning, alongside new addition Ellen Page (The Umbrella Academy).

And here’s the official synopsis…

Based on the books by Armistead Maupin, this next chapter – Armistead Maupin’s Tales Of The City – follows Mary Ann (Laura Linney), who returns home to San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian, twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann returns home to her chosen family and will quickly be drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis) and the residents of 28 Barbary Lane.

Lauren Morelli (Orange Is The New Black) is the writer, showrunner, and executive producer on Tales Of The City, with Alan Poul having returned to direct.

The first three Tales From The City series, and indeed the best-selling novels they were based on, were pretty groundbreaking at the time, addressing LGBT issues and depicting LGBT relationships that were still majorly absent from cultural reflection.

The new series will be streaming on Netflix UK from 7th June.
