They’re creepy and they’re kooky and now they’re also animated for a new feature film. The first trailer has arrived for Universal’s reboot of The Addams Family and it’s packed with a-listers.
Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac star as amourous parents Morticia and Gomez Addams, with Chloe Grace Moretz voicing daughter Wednesday, Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard as Pugglsey, Nick Kroll voicing Uncle Fester, and Bette Midler voicing Grandmama. Finally, Allison Janney will be voicing the villain, Margaux Needler.
This first look sees the family move into a scary new home, indulge in some light torture and blow stuff up, while Wedsneday looks suitably sullen and disaffected.
The premise sees the family get involved with a corrupt reality TV host, while expecting a visit from the extended family.

It also comes with an It gag. When Wednesday shows up with a red balloon Morticia remarks that ‘there’s usually a murderous clown attached to the other end of these’ – particularly nice since Finn Wolfhard stars in the recent It adaptation.
The Addams Family has appeared in a range of forms from TV series, to games to the 1990s live action movie trilogy. The fam has even been animated before for a series in the early 90s. This new version comes from directors Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon who made Sausage Party, but we’re expecting a massive tonal shift from that adult comedy.
The cast is quality, so we’d hope that speaks for the calibre of the script. We have to admit we’re not totally on board with the look of Wedsnesday, who’s more Caspar The Friendly Ghost than Christina Ricci but we’ll reserve judgement until the film is released in UK cinemas on 25 October.
