Will Albert survive a third series of ITV's popular royal drama?

Victoria will be back for a third series on ITV very shortly!

Series 3 of the lavish show, which is a ratings hit for the broadcaster, will see both Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Tom Hughes (Paula) return to their roles as Victoria and Albert respectively.

Via TV Wise:

The show’s third season will depict a turbulent and uncertain time for both Europe and the monarchy. With revolutions on the continent and the Chartist movement reaching its peak in London, Victoria is under pressure from the government to leave London for her own safety.

Victoria series 3 plot

Creator Daisy Goodwin has been teasing events to come for the royals at the recent TCA press event.

“It starts in 1848,” Goodwin explained. “It’s the closest Britain got to a revolution in the 19th century. The whole of Europe is falling apart. The French king has been thrown off the throne….there are riots in Berlin and Victoria and Albert are terrified.”

But viewers worried that Albert will kick the bucket in series 3 can likely rest easy…for now:

“I think we can safely say we’re not going to lose Albert in this series. It’s a really interesting time because Victoria just wants the love of her people. She’s almost like a child star who’s grown up with this affection and love, and when it’s withdrawn she’s empty and she doesn’t know what she’s for. But Albert thinks to be monarch is not necessarily to give people what they want, but what they need.”

Victoria’s sister Feodora (Kate Fleetwood) will also be a surprising new character on the scene. “Most people don’t know that Victoria had a sister. There she is, living in a crumbly, draughty castle in the middle of Germany and she’s having a miserable time. And there’s Victoria being Queen of England. It doesn’t go down so well.”

Victoria series 3 release date

The third season of Victoria will premiere on ITV on Sunday March 24th at 9pm.
