London gets a monsterous kicking in our first look at Neil Marshall's take on the half-demon superhero

Monsters! Wisecracks! Big Mo firing a machine gun! That’s right, the first trailer for the Hellboy reboot has arrived, and it packs a lot into its two minutes and 15 seconds.

Adapted from Mike Mignola’s much-loved comics, the story sees the eponymous half-demon superhero (played by Stranger Things‘ David Harbour) called to the English countryside to fight off a trio of rampaging giants. There he meets The Blood Queen (Resident Evil‘s Milla Jovovich), a supernatural sorceress who’s got an axe to grind with humanity. Hellboy’s job? To stop her without kicking off an apocalypse.

There definitely seems to be a more comedic – and UK-centric – tone to proceedings than Guillermo del Toro’s previous two movies, with Harbour seemingly nailing the comic timing and one-liners. Directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game Of Thrones), this new Hellboy also stars Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim and Sasha Lane, and is released in UK cinemas on 12 April 2019.
