In the new age of media crosspollination, there is no such thing as an end. Indeed, Downton Abbey series 5’s Christmas special was supposed to conclude Downton Abbey with a fresh round of marriages, births, and even a teary-eyed semi-retirement. However, there is more time left to spend with this post-Edwardian and now post-World War I gentry and their help. A Downton Abbey movie is officially on the way, complete with the remaining main cast, writing, and directing team.
Downton Abbey movie trailer
“Next year. You are cordially invited to the motion picture event only in theaters.”
The Downton Abbey movie teaser trailer is here. While there’s not much to take away from a story standpoint other than a mystery figure riding up to the titular estate on a motorcycle, it’s only designed to whet appetites.
However, a revelatory guest list from said cordial invite is shown at the end of the teaser clip, naming: Lord Grantham, Lady Mary Talbot, the Dowager Lady Grantham, Tom Branson, Mr. Barrow, Mr. Bates, Mrs. Patmore, Daisy Mason, Lady Grantham, Lady Hexham, Lady Merton, Mr. Carson, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Bates, Mr. Molesley and Miss Baxter.
Downton Abbey movie release date
Focus Features has given the Downton Abbey movie an official release date. The continuation of the popular series will premiere on Friday 13th September, 2019.
Downton Abbey movie cast
The Downton Abbey movie is produced by Carnival Films and distributed globally by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International. Furthermore, Julian Fellowes, the creator and showrunner of Downton Abbey, has written the screenplay. Additionally, Brian Percival, who directed the pilot for the television series, has directed the movie. And since this means more time with Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley, Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess, and Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham, fans should be most pleased.
Downton Abbey was of course a cultural phenomenon for those who look back wistfully at turn of the century English nobility before the First World War and “modernity” made their lifestyles somewhat less romantic.
The show ran for five series on ITV. During that time, it won 15 Emmys, three Golden Globes, and a cornucopia of other awards, as well as launched into stardom the careers of Dockery, Dan Stevens, Lily James, and Rose Leslie, among others.
