The second series of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's excellent comedy drama, Fleabag, is on the way…

Fleabag, adapted by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge from her acclaimed stage show, was the comedy of 2016. A candidly confessional story about guilt and self-loathing, series one was met with plaudits and an immediate clamour for more.

The Beeb know we’re hungering for some new Fleabag, of course, and has released a first look image from series 2 to remind us there’s more to look forward to next year…

The returning cast for the second series includes Olivia Colman, Sian Clifford, Bill Paterson, Brett Gelman, Jenny Rainsford and Hugh Skinner.

Sherlock fans, though, may be interested to know that Andrew Scott is also on board. Whatever your religious persuasion, I think we can all share in the casting press-release words of Waller-Bridge “thank God for Andrew Scott.”

BBC Comedy Commissioning Controller Shane Allen says the series two scripts are “knockout” (I mean, he would, but in this case there’s every reason to believe him). According to Allen, the new episodes are “sparkling with Phoebe’s unique voice that combines a whip smart complexity of character with pin sharp funny lines scattered everywhere.”

Allen continues, “It’s a superb team and cast from top to bottom and with Fleabag you can never escape a reference to the bottom.” Quite.

We’ll bring you more on the new series, which will air on BBC Three and Amazon Prime Video in 2019, as it arrives.
