The long-running BBC sitcom is about to deliver its final series…

Victor McDade and Jack Jarvis will retire from our screens forever early next year – the forthcoming ninth series of Still Game will be the last.

Greg Hemphill, Ford Kiernan, Jane McCarry, Sanjeev Kohli, Gavin Mitchell, Pail Riley and Mark Cox will all be back for a final run of one of the Beeb’s most-watched shows, and it’s been announced that this will get underway on 24th February, 2019 as part of BBC Scotland’s launch. The new channel was confirmed to be in development a while back. BBC One will air the ninth series a bit later, but that date has not yet been released.

“Jack and Victor are a bottle being smashed on the bow of a beautiful ship and we’re absolutely thrilled to be launching Scotland’s brand new digital channel with the last ever series of Still Game,” remarked Hemphill in a statement.

Kiernan added: “Scotland is where Still Game’s roots began and it’s right the story comes to an end here. From the early beginnings on radio, through to TV, we started to build Still Game in Scotland – so we’re honoured our show will be part of the launch of a new BBC channel from Scotland. We’re looking forward to our audience joining us at the end of our fabulous adventure.”

The BBC has promised “a must-see finale for fans across the country” but it’s likely to be a bittersweet one for fans of the beloved show, which only came back in 2016 after nine years off the air.

We’ll get you the later BBC One air date when it’s revealed.
