There’ll be a new Star Wars book hitting shelves just in time for Christmas, and it looks like it’ll be a pretty decent addition to your coffee table! Published by Taschen, The Star Wars Archives: 1977–1983 will be a detailed new retrospective on the original trilogy, promising a proper behind the scenes look at everything that went into making the first (and best?) three Star Wars films.
Taschen look set to deliver a nice little package with this one, and we know it’s a weird thing to say, but we also think it might smell really nice. Can you not smell this picture?? Tell us we’re not alone on this?

In The Star Wars Archives: 1977–1983, George Lucas guides us through the original trilogy like never before, recounting the inspirations, experiences, and stories that created a modern monomyth. Complete with script pages, concept art, storyboards, on-set photography and more, the book is an authoritative exploration of Lucas’s inimitable universe.
Here’s a look inside the forthcoming book, courtesy of Taschen…
The first drawing of the roll-up that opens the film, drawn by Alex Tavoularis. This was inspired by the roll-ups that open the old Flash Gordon movie serials of the 1930s.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) confronts Darth Vader in the fateful duel. George Lucas (right) is thoughtful. Alec Guinness resisted the idea of Kenobi’s self-sacrifice, but Lucas persuaded him it was good for the character and the film.

This sequence was based on archival World Ward II footage edited together by George Lucas. Joe Johnston: “This [shot] was a couple of German fighters firing on a bomber from the combat fotoage and this one came out very similar to that original footage.”

Animators Phil Tippett and Jon Berg create the Battle of Hoth on tabletops.

Just to reassure you: this isn’t a sponsored post, we just think it looks nice and we want one.
The Star Wars Archives: 1977–1983 will be released on 7th December.
