Martin Freeman will be exploring the er, joys of parenthood in a new comedy for sky co-created with Simon Blackwell and Chris Addison…

Attention comedy fans, this one has potential written all over it. Veep and The Thick Of It‘s Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison and Martin Freeman have co-created a new comedy series about parenting: Breeders.

Freeman will play “a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was” in the ten-part series, alongside Episodes‘ Daisy Haggard.

It’s a Sky/FX co-production, both of which have a strong track record in envelope-pushing comedy. The official bumf describes the show as covering “some of the less-discussed truths and challenges of being a parent.”

The half-hour comedy will expose, “the paradox of parenting that it is possible, in the same moment, to love your child to the horizon of the universe, while being apoplectically angry enough to want to send them there.” We, er couldn’t possibly comment.

If you saw 2014 Sky comedy Trying Again, in which Jo Joyner and Chris Addison played a couple in a small town struggling to rebuild their relationship after an affair, you’ll know that a Blackwell/Addison collaboration is an excellent thing, so count us in for this one.

We’ll bring more news on Breeders as it arrives.
