Christmas movies: they come earlier every year, don’t they?
Though Netflix is currently knee deep in churning out Halloween content for its “Netflix & Chills” season, the streamer has found the time to start promoting a different kind of season, so it’s released the first trailer for the Chris Columbus-produced Christmas film, The Christmas Chronicles.
The trailer features Kurt Russell as Santa Claus and for most people that should be enough to get into the spirit of the season. Here is the trailer and everything else we know about the film.
The Christmas Chronciles trailer
The Christmas Chronicles trailer opens up with a pretty important bit of information. Santa Claus’s job is a bureaucratic nightmare. There are a lot of children to assess and as Santa acknowledges himself “Stop. Kids aren’t stupid. They know how this works.” Sounds like some corruption is afoot at the North Pole.
Now THAT’S a Santa who knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake. This is a Santa who’s aware that a billboard adds 80 pounds and who can keep the elves in line.
The Christmas Chronicles cast
Any movie about Santa Claus is only as good as its Santa Claus. The Christmas Chronicles has gone with an inspired bit of casting and brought Kurt Russell aboard to play ol’ Saint Nick. The trailer makes mention of the Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone director being behind the film. While Chris Columbus is producing, The Angry Birds Movie director Clay Kaytis has helmed it.
The Christmas Chronicles release date
The Christmas Chronicles will arrive on Netflix on 22nd November. Just in time for…er.
The Christmas Chronicles synopsis
Per Netflix:
The Christmas Chronicles, a holiday adventure from producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”) and director Clay Kaytis (“The Angry Birds Movie”), tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa – as you’ve never seen him before – and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it’s too late.
