Kenneth Branagh’s next Poirot movie gets its first suspect

Last year’s Murder On The Orient Express was a surprise hit for director Kenneth Branagh, grossing over $351 million worldwide. Since Agatha Christie wrote 33 books about detective Hercule Poirot, it’s not much of a spoiler to say that a sequel was always on the cards – even teased in the last scene of Branagh’s movie.

Now moving ahead with an adaptation of Christie’s other most famous Poirot case, Death On The Nile, Branagh has cast Gal Gadot in the role of Linnet Ridgeway Doyle – a rich heiress who gets mixed up in another whodunit.

Death On The Nile is set aboard a luxury steamer in 1930’s Egypt as Poirot reluctantly tries to help Doyle with a stalking case that quickly turns into murder mystery. Just like Murder On The Orient Express, Poirot is trapped inside with a bunch of passengers who all might be suspects, and it’s up to him and his mustache to figure it all out before the ship reaches port.

Branagh hasn’t officially confirmed that he’ll be returning as Hercule Poirot yet (he will), so Gadot is the first name to be announced for Death On The Nile. If the first film’s starry ensemble is anything to go by, expect a lotof other big names to join the list of socialites, suspects and rich ne’er-do-wells before too long.

Death On The Nile is heading for release on January 3rd, 2020.
