Goodbye, friend. Christian Slater says that we're about to get our last dose of Mr Robot…

It looks like the dark and spacious world of Mr Robot will be collapsing in on itself one final time with the upcoming fourth season. Sam Esmail and his band of writers are currently fleshing out a surreal new trip for fractured computer whizz Elliot Alderson, with Rami Malek confirmed to return to the endlessly fascinating dystopian hacker series, along with co-star Christian Slater.

Slater has been chatting with Collider about his new film The Wife, and in the interview he flagged up a runtime error (sorry) for one of our favourite shows. It seems that this will be the end for fsociety…

“Yeah, season 4, and I believe that will be the last season. (Show creator) Sam [Esmail] always said it was going to be somewhere in that zone, and he didn’t want to go further than what he could creatively contribute to that storyline. So, I think that season 4 will be it. I think they’re in the writers’ room, as we speak, putting it all together, but I have no idea what it’s gonna be, or if I’m gonna be floating in and out of scenes. I have no idea, so we’ll see what happens.”

Filiming on season 4 is set to get underway in November, but Mr Robot creator Esmail has yet to back up Slater’s comments about the conclusion of the series.

The hit drama has been a critical win for the USA network since the beginning, with Malek and Slater having received numerous award nominations, including an Emmy win for Malek for Best Actor in 2016.

Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer, BD Wong and Bobby Cannavale are all coming back for the possible shutdown -r.
