Terribly sad news arrived at the weekend – Barry Elliott, half of the iconic Chuckle Brothers duo that brightened many a childhood, passed away at 73 after a secret battle with bone cancer.
In a tribute to his legacy, the BBC has made the final series of ChuckleVision available on iPlayer.
“Barry was loved by both the audience and his colleagues at BBC Children’s. He’ll be sorely missed by all who knew him. We hope by making the final ever series of ChuckleVision available that viewers old and new can enjoy Barry and Paul’s unique brand of kids’ comedy”, said the director BBC Children’s Entertainment, Alice Webb, in a statement.
“I still can’t believe he’s gone and that we will never perform together again,” brother Paul Elliott told the Press Association. “I knew nothing of how serious his illness was until fairly recently. He always said that he wanted to die on stage and that he would work right to the end which he more or less did. Our Barry kept it to himself and he kept it from me, knowing how close we were and we have always been! He was a trooper in every sense of the word and right to the end!”
Irreplaceable.
