Patrick Wilson, Laysla De Oliveira and Harrison Gilbertson have signed on for the Netflix adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill’s In The Tall Grass. The film, from Splice director Vincenzo Natali, is based on the horror novella originally published in Esquire.
In The Tall Grass was originally set to star James Marsden (Westworld, the X-Men movies), but scheduling conflicts have forced a reshuffle and lined up Wilson in the lead instead, alongside De Oliveira and Gilbertson.
Short though it is, In The Tall Grass is classic King. The story begins with a brother and sister driving around the Kansas countryside when they suddenly hear a boy screaming for help in a field of grass. Then, as you’d expect, all hell breaks loose.
“Who would think that grass could be frightening,” says Natali, talking to Screen Daily. “Trust Stephen King and Joe Hill to find a way. They have transformed an otherwise innocuous Kansas field into a stage for some of the most disturbing horror fiction I have ever read.”
De Oliveira is an actress who’s banked TV guest spots on iZombie, Nikita and films like 7Seconds and Lea To The Rescue, but she also has several big projects in her backlog such as sci-fi film Code 8 and the Orlando Bloom/Freida Pinto-starring sci-fi film, Needle In A Timestack.
Gilbertson is an actor recently seen on Amazon’s Picnic At Hanging Rock, as well as films such as Upgrade, Fallen, Need For Speed and Haunt.
The film will begin production soon in Toronto. The film is set to premiere worldwide in 2019.
