Hasbro is finally working on a follow up to the 2017 movie

You can’t kill the Power Rangers. The show has been running, in some form, since 1993, but last year’s reboot movie was a box office disappointment. Over a year after its initial release, a sequel has been confirmed.

After Hasbro recently acquired the franchise from Saban Brands, it looks like they have plans to pick up where the 2017 film left off. Speaking to Licensing.org, CEO of Hasbro Brian Goldner stated bluntly:

“Hasbro will work with a film studio to develop a new Power Rangers movie as a follow-up to the 2017 release.”

That’s all that was mentioned about the film but this definitely doesn’t sound like another reboot. Calling the new film a “follow-up to the 2017 release” implies a sequel, most likely with the same characters. There’s a lot to work with, especially since that film ended with a tease of the Green Ranger, Tommy. Considering how popular that character is it’d be smart for Hasbro to push in that direction.

Then there’s the seed that was planted about the Zeo Crystal, an easter egg for fans referencing the later set of powers from the Power Rangers Zeo series. There’s also a ton of places the universe could go, according to the original film’s writer.
