Barely taking a break after wrapping Venom, Tom Hardy jumped straight into the makeup chair for Josh Trank’s Fonzo– a biopic of notorious crime kingpin, Al Capone.
Playing the gangster in his last years as a 47-year-old man ridden with syphilitic dementia, the transformation is pretty extraordinary (via Fandango). Obviously clad in a whole of prosthetics, the cigar, the clothes and Hardy’s menacing squint all make for a fairly frightening looking old tough guy.

Trank’s version of the Capone story is set to be quite different from the dozens of other biopics that have been made since the ’30s, focusing exclusively on his final years as he lives out his days in his Florida mansion, haunted by memories of his violent past and suffering terrible ill health.
Trank will be hoping that Fonzo puts him back in everyone’s good books after his Fantastic Four reboot earned him a reputation for making bad films with a bad temper – and everything we’ve heard about the film so far sounds positive.
With Run The Jewels rapper El-P composing the score and Hardy looking like that, it’s certainly going to be a bit different from The Untouchables…
