The Bridesmaids director has named The Sweetest Fig as his next film

Paul Feig is realizing his destiny and symbolically removing the “e” from his last name to direct The Sweetest Fig, based on a children’s book of the same name.

The Sweetest Fig is an illustrated children’s book from 1993 that was written by Chris Van Allsburg (who also wrote The Polar Express and Jumanji). The book tells the story of Monsieur Bibot, a wealthy, rude dentist who lives alone in Paris with his dog, Marcel. One day, after extracting a tooth from an old woman, Bibot is given two magic wishing figs as payment. Bibot dreams for unimaginable riches and, to his delight, his dream comes true. Unfortunately for him, the mistreated Marcel eats one of his figs and starts having a few dreams of his own. #JusticeforMarcel

Feig is probably best known for R-rated comedies like BridesmaidsThe Heat, and Spy so this will be a bit of a departure. He did, however, direct 2006’s family comedy Unaccompanied Minors. If that’s not enough, perhaps Feig can harken back to his days running Freaks and Geeks. While not a kid’s show, it was certainly a bit more family friendly than the diarrhea scene in Bridesmaids.
