Jessica Chastain will star and produce the upcoming action movie

After Jessica Chastain (presumably) slays an evil clown in It: Chapter Two next autumn, she’ll be ready to take on her next acting challenge: action star.

According to Variety, Chastain has signed on to produce and star in Eve, an action film from writer and director Matthew Newton. Details of the plot are being kept under wraps but rumours point to a script about a ruthless female assassin who is hunted down by her former employers after she tries to tell her family what her day job is.

Newton is an up and coming Australian writer, director, and actor whose fourth film, Who We Are Now, got rave reviews after premiering at the Toronto Film Festival last year. “Matthew is wonderfully adept at crafting complex and relatable characters. We’ve been fans of his work and are so thrilled to be partnering with him on Eve,” Chastain and producer Kelly Carmichael said in a joint statement.

The film will mark Chastain’s first role as a full on action hero – but she’s likely to test the waters first with her shape-shifting role in Dark Phoenix.
