Bogart and Hepburn. Douglas and Turner. Johnson and Blunt. That’s the message that Disney are trying to push with the first teaser promo for Jungle Cruise– the movie based on Disneyland’s otherold boat ride.
Judging by this tiny snippet of on-set mostly-scripted sort-of comedy, the chemistry is looking good – with Blunt acting a bit prim and Mary Poppins-y, and Johnson acting all Hollywood and action star-y (weird that).
The movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, The Commuter) stars Johnson as Frank, a boat captain who agrees to take Lily (Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a quest to find a magical healing tree in the middle of the jungle.
If it’s anything like the ride, the film will be full of encounters with wild animals, dangerous natives and jungle rapids – and the tone will hopefully be somewhere between Temple Of Doom and The African Queen.
Édgar Ramírez and Jesse Plemons are the bad guys also after the magic tree, and Paul Giamatti has signed on to play “crusty harbormaster.”With filming now well underway in Hawaii, expect more details, and more witty banter from Johnson and Blunt, to follow soon.
