You’ve heard of the hounds of war, but it seems like the pigs are hitting the trneches next. New wartime thriller War Pigs has just picked up former Hollywood bad boys Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell to play the boorish protagonists.
The film is the brainchild of B-movie guru Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters), who will be directing the action from a script written by Nick Ball (Cat Run), as per THR. Sounding like sort of like of a gritty sequel to classic WWII actioner Kelly’s Heroes, War Pigs focuses on two vets out for revenge on a gang of criminals who killed one of their comrades and then, even worse, stole their drug money.
There’s no word yet about which war they’re actually fighting, so it’s a good bet that War Pigs takes place in the modern day, with Farrell playing a guy named Drex and Gibson embodying the ominously named “Pastor.”
The film is set to continue Gibson’s big screen rehabilitation after Daddy’s Home 2 and the forthcoming Dragged Across Concrete – still riding the waves of his biggest recent success with Hacksaw Ridge.
And Farrell fans who are still disappointed that he turned into Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts will be happy to see him back in a major Hollwood movie – even if it does sound like it’s going to be a lot less magical and a bit more grimly violent.
