Peter Dinklage really doesn’t want to shave that Tyrion Lannister in Essos beard.
The Emmy-winning Game of Thrones actor has lined up a major post-Thrones project, signing on to produce and star in Rumpelstiltskin, a film based on a fable of the same name at Sony, Variety reports.
This won’t be Dinklage’s first post-Thrones project as the very busy Lion of Lannister has HBO movie My Dinner with Hervé lined up for later this year along with a couple other projects. Though it could be a major one as this is said to be a big project and a priority for Sony.
Patrick Ness (creator of the Doctor Who spinoff Class) and author of A Monster Calls will be penning the script and Karen Rosenfelt, Circle of Confusion’s Matt Smith and David Alpert, David Ginsberg, and Josh Weinstock will produce the film.
Rumpelstiltskin will keep Dinklage in the fantasy realm with the story of a miller who lies to a king and tells him that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The poor girl is then locked in a tower and instructed to spin straw into gold or she will be decapitated. When the daughter is at her lowest point and lost, an imp-like creature named Rumpelstiltskin appears and tells her he can spin straw into gold in exchange for increasingly unreasonable bargains.
The girl obliges, gets some gold and everyone lives happily ever after. Just kidding, of course that doesn’t happen. Things escalate far beyond the girl’s control and we all learn a valuable lesson about demonic imps, despotic kings and over-promising dads, or something.
It’s unknown what parts of the fable will be included or what time period it will take place in though Dinklage will be playing the title character. The story isn’t particularly current in terms of gender politics so it’ll very likely be updated.
