Ashley Jensen is the first to sign up to Disney's new Lady And The Tramp movie…

The latest of its animated classics that Disney is looking to turn into a live action movie? Step forward Lady And The Tramp. The animated version was released in 1955, adapted from Ward Greene’s Happy Dan, The Whistling Dog. The new version will mix up live action and CG, with Computer Chess’ Andrew Bujalski penning the script. Furthermore, Charlie Bean (The LEGO Ninjago Movie) is directing.

As an aside, Computer Chess is well, well worth seeking out.

Anyway. Now we learn that casting has begun in earnest, with the news that the brilliant Ashley Jensen is joining the cast. She’ll voice Jackie in the new version (the character was Jock in the animated version). No more details than that have come to light, but in truth, those details get to the nub of the story.

Production is set to start later this year, and it’s looking very likely that the movie will be one of the first big productions for Disney’s Netflix-rival streaming service, that it launches in 2019.

More as we hear it…
