A bidding war is underway to bring Hamilton to cinemas, it's been revealed…

Few musicals in the past couple of decades have had quite the impact of the astonishing Hamilton, a piece of work that’s earned huge acclaim, huge amounts of dollars and delighted audiences around the world. Penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, it continues to pack theatres, and there’s been little sign of a movie adaptation on the way.

However, it does appear that there are plans to bring Hamilton to cinemas.

According to a new report in The Wall Street Journal, a version of the stage production was properly filmed in 2016, that includes the full original cast of the show. Discussions are apparently underway to release that recording of the show in cinemas, and a bidding war is apparently underway amongst movie studios to be able to do so. A $50m price tag at the very least has been mooted.

That said, whoever prevails in this particular auction is still going to have to wait. Apparently, the earliest it’ll be possible to release the show in cinemas will be 2020 or 2021, to allow a continued couple of years where Hamilton can be exclusive to theatres.

As we hear more, we’ll keep you posted…
