The Joker origins movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, begins to flesh out what looks to be an impressive cast…

It looks like the cast of the upcoming Joker origins movie is about to land a couple of really rather interesting names.

The movie, that stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, is set to start filming later this year. And a new report suggests that Robert De Niro is in talks to join the production. He’d play a talk show host/radio shock jock – The King Of Comedy, anyone? – who becomes a key part of the Joker’s origin story.

Robert De Niro hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet to our knowledge, but it’d be quite a coup for the Todd Phillips-directed movie if he did.

And we’re not done.

Set to sign up to play the Joker’s mother in the movie is Frances Conroy, seen of late in American Horror Story. Also on board is Zazie Beetz, most recently seen in Deadpool 2.

The film is set for release in October 2019.
