Syfy continued one of San Diego Comic-Con’s most charming traditions by announcing that fandom favourite Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a fourth season.
“We are absolutely delighted that Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a fourth season,” creator Emily Andras said. “We are so grateful to Syfy for their relentless and ferocious support of the series and the Earper fandom.”
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the renewal prior to the show’s panel at SDCC, and then it was officially announced for the creator, cast, and fans in attendance.
Andras was present at Comic-Con for the show’s panel, along with cast members Melanie Scrofano, Shamier Anderson, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley,Katherine Barrell, Varun Saranga, and Chantel Riley. They were there to discuss Wynonna Earp season 3, which debuted this week.
Syfy had confirmed the show’s renewal for another season at each of the past two San Diego Comic-Cons. Wynonna Earp is really blessed with a Comic-Con-friendly production schedule. Perhaps that’s what nurtured an environment for the show to become such a fandom hit.
Wynonna Earp has certainly never been a hit in the traditional sense. Its ratings are decent but not overwhelming. It has earned a devoted fanbase online called Earpers. The Earper fanbase is unusually wholesome and supportive as far as genre fandom goes.
Wynonna Earp is based on a IDW Publishing comic of the same name from Beau Smith. It follows the great great granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, as she battles reincarnated outlaws called revenants.
There is no word yet on when Wynonna Earp season 4 will debut, but it will have to be before Comic-Con next year so they can announce season 5 at the panel!
