Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the new Turtles cartoon from Nickelodeon, will be broadcasting in the UK at 10am on the 22nd of September 2018. It’ll be showing on both Nicktoons and Channel 5, so you can flip back and forth if you’re so inclined. Don’t try getting trigger happy with the Den of Geek HQ TV remote during Saturday morning cartoons, though. We don’t stand for that. If you sit nicely and watch quietly you’re quite welcome to pour yourself a bowl of cereal and sit down to watch with us, of course.
Never mind the cornflakes, here’s the casting news.
Sex Pistols’ Jonny ‘Rotten’ Lydon will be providing the voice of a mutant pig called Meat Sweats. I’ve checked the press release three times and that’s what it says. Consider Den of Geek thrilled that the team behind Risehave decided to do this to reality. We appreciate it, guys.
Following a panel at San Diego Comic Con, we’ve had an influx of character and cast information too. Please don’t look for it to get any saner.
Let’s see. There’s Tom Kenny (Spongebob himself) as a robot called Albearto. There’s Lena Headey off Game Of Thrones as Big Mama (a mutant spider and not, as far as we can tell, a reprisal of her character from Dredd). There’s Rhys Darby (Flight Of The Conchords) as Hypno-Potamus. There’s Ghost Bear (Jorge Gutierrez) and a mutant earthworm not called Jim (John Michael Higgins).
It’s also been announced that Rise voice director Rob Paulsen, who voiced Donatello in the 2012 Nickelodeon Turtles toon and Raphael in the 1987 version, will be playing a Foot Clan member. In fact, he’ll be reteaming with fellow veteran voice actor Maurice LeMarche, who he worked with on Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures and, briefly, that 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Both of them are in the Foot Clan now. And they seemed so nice.
It was announced earlier in the year that Omar Miller will be Raphael, Ben Schwarz will be Leonardo, Brandon Mychal Smith will be Mikey and John Brenner will be Donatello. You’ve also got Kat Graham as April O’Neil, Eric Bauza as Splinter and WWE star John Cena as Baron Draxum. The show is executive produced by Andy Suriano and Ant Ward. When did this article turn into the end credits of the show? At what point did we lose control here?
Here’s the trailer for Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The first episode of Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be available on Nickelodeon websites Nick.co.uk and Nicktoons.co.uk from the 15thSeptember.
But if you can’t wait until September, you can head to your local comic shop and pick up Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #0by Matthew Manning and Chad Thomas for a taste of the show right now.
While we have your ear and are filling it with words about Ninja Turtles comics, IDW announced at SDCC that Mateus Santolouco (2 Guns) will be writing and drawing a five issue mini-series called Shredder in Hell, which we’ll get to read in 2019. That is incredibly exciting news. Santolouco’s The Secret History of the Foot Clan (co-written with Eric Burnham) is the highlight of IDWs fantastic Turtles run.
