Many weeks after its official release date here in the UK, Solo: A Star Wars Story is still playing in cinemas, but Disney and Lucasfilm are already prepping a home release for the movie, and have dated and detailed the discs for us.
The prequel first arrived back in late May to a disappointing box office, which a group of die hard fans have naturally taken responsibility for. They’ve claimed that in a wallet-clutching boycott against both Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy’s decisions to sort of reboot the franchise, breathe some new life into it and move away from stories that revolve around more beloved central plots such as “man has Star Wars adventures and saves the day” with previous saga films like The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens, they simply had no choice but to refuse to support a film where *squints* a man has Star Wars adventures and saves the day.
Can…can anyone else smell burnt toast?
It’s been argued since that these fans weren’t really that involved in Solo‘s fate, however. That perhaps it’s entirely possibly that yet another Star Wars prequel, and one with such a troubled production, which was ultimately received with generally middling reviews, and that starred Steven Spielberg’s former accountant’s son, was never likely to set the box office on fire. The fandom infighting will no doubt rage on, regardless.
Er, yes. Okay, then. In the UK we’ll be getting the physical release of Solo: A Star Wars Story a day earlier than the US, with the film available on digital from 17th September, and the DVD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions available from 24th September.
It’s up for pre-order pretty much everywhere now. Here’s a look at the cover…
