Victor McDade and Jack Jarvis will retire from our screens forever this year, it’s been announed. The upcoming ninth series of Still Game will be the last.
Greg Hemphill, Ford Kiernan, Jane McCarry, Sanjeev Kohli, Gavin Mitchell, Pail Riley and Mark Cox will all start filming series 9 of one of the Beeb’s most-watched shows in Scotland next month, but after that, they’re done.
“Still Game is a story 21 years in the making,” remarked creator Hemphill upon the news breaking. “We’ve had an amazing run, but one of our hopes when we brought the show back was that we would get the opportunity to finish Jack, Victor and the gang’s journey. We feel that time is upon us. We hope you will join us later in the year to see how the story ends!”
Co-creator Ford Kiernan added “I can’t believe 21 years have passed in what, for us, has been an outstanding experience of collaboration, storytelling and performing. But above all being fortunate to entertain people and make them smile. So when the last episode airs we hope your memories of our little gang will be fond ones.”
The BBC have promised “a must-see finale for fans across the country” but it’s likely to be a bittersweet one for fans of the long-running show, which only came back in 2016 after nine years off the air.
The ninth and final series of Still Game will start airing late in 2018.
