A new filming report suggests that an Obi-Wan Star Wars spin-off movie is still expected to film in Northern Ireland next year…

Ah, now this is interesting. As you more than likely know, a few weeks back it was reported that Lucasfilm and Disney were edging away from doing more A Star Wars Story spin-off films, following the disappointing box office of the latest, Solo.

The next film that was closest to production was reportedly an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, to which Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry had been attached. Daldry has since apparently passed on the movie, and the assumption was that the project had been shut down.

But has it? A new report has sprung up at the Belfast Telegraph, covering upcoming filming that’s set to take place in the city. And said report specifically cites that the Obi-Wan movie is scheduled to start filming in Belfast this coming April. Furthermore, that George Lucas was in Northern Ireland just before Christmas to secure the deal.

Now things may very well have changed, and Lucasfilm may have abandoned its plans. But as per the report, at the moment, there’s an assumption that Star Wars will be heading to Belfast around next Easter.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
