Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, magic spells and evil pumpkins in Eli Roth's family fantasy film

Eli Roth making a family film is a bit weird. A key member of the ‘Splat Pack’ he’s a director best know for his ‘torture porn’ Hostel movies and more recently The Green Inferno – a cannibal flick, naturally. But next up he’s got a magic fantasy film in the vein of Harry Potter.

The House With The Clock In Its Walls follows a young orphan called Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his Uncle Jonathan (Jack Black) who is a warlock (“a boy witch”). With the help of Jonathan’s neighbour Mrs. Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett) they must locate a clock buried within the house, left there by the previous magical tennant (Kyle MacLachlan) which might just be capable of bringing about the end of the world.

This new trailer, which we gather will be the final one, is longer than the previous and include extra evil pumpkins, extra cupboard monster, puppets, automatons and lots of bantz between Blanchett and Black.

The House With The Clock In Its Walls opens in cinemas on 21 September.
