Jared Leto is to jump from The Joker to playing Spider-Man villain Morbius…

He may or may not be reprising his role as The Joker in the DC Extended Universe, following the muted response to the character in Suicide Squad. But while he waits to find out, Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto is taking on another comic book movie role.

He’s joining Sony’s universe of Spider-Man spin-off movies, in which he’s set to play Morbius The Living Vampire.

Furthermore, the film is set to be directed, it’s been revealed, by Daniel Espinosa. Espinosa directed the quietly impressive Life, released last year, and the thriller Safe House, amongst others.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama are penning the screenplay for the movie, although no timescale for the project has been confirmed just yet.

Leto’s casting as Morbius does not apparently affect his work as The Joker, nor preclude him from reprising that particular part.

More, of course, as we get it.
