Panos Cosmatos directs Nicolas Cage in a horror thriller that's already received acclaim at festivals. Here's the first trailer for Mandy…

Panos Cosmatos, son of Rambo: First Blood Part II director George Pan Cosmatos, first put himself on the map with his strange and beautifully shot sci-fi horror, Beyond The Black Rainbow.

Well, Cosmatos may have found his perfect creative muse in Nicolas Cage, who stars in his latest movie, Mandy. Set in 1983, it’s a horror-revenge thriller set in an 80s Californian wilderness.

Andrea Riseborough plays Cage’s other half, the Mandy of the title, and their peaceful life in the middle of nowhere is apparently sent into a dervish thanks to the arrival of Linus Roache and his gang of maniacs and monsters.

Much gore, mayhem and Cage jazz-kabuki acting ensues.

And if you thought that was weird, then check out the official synopsis:

A shadow of a man (Nicolas Cage). A face through a window (Linus Roach), crying in the night. The night goes into morning, just another day. Happy people pass my way; looking in their eyes, I see a memory.

I never realised how happy you made me. Oh Mandy (Andrea Riseborough), well you came and you gave without taking. But I sent you away, oh Mandy. And you kissed me and stopped me from shaking, and I need you today, oh Mandy.

Okay, so that’s not the official synopsis – it’s a bunch of Barry Manilow lyrics. But we like to think those words capture the spirit of Cosmatos’ film.

Mandy is due out later this year. When we have a precise release date, we’ll pass it along.
