The latest planned big screen Willy Wonka movie reboot is heading towards the casting stage, it seems. Whilst nobody has bettered, in our eyes, the idea of Richard Ayoade tackling the character who has thus far been played on screen by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, there are intriguing candidates for the new movie.
Donald Glover, currently on the big screen as Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story (and indeed walking away with most of the plaudits from the film), is one name under consideration, it’s now being reported. Glover has apparently been pursuing the role.
Also on the list, though, are said to be Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller. There’s no clear preference at this stage, although Glover may have edged himself into pole position by chasing the role. That’s speculation on our part, though.
The new movie is being directed by Paddington’s Paul King, working from a script by Simon Rich. There’s no word yet on a release date, or when filming will begin. We’ll keep you posted, of course, as we hear more.
