Dolly Parton is going to be working 9 to 5 for Netflix. The streaming service greenlighted an anthology series based on songs from the country music icon. Every episode of the series will be based on a hit song in her catalogue.
Parton, 72, will serve as an executive producer, singer, songwriter, and will appear on the show. She had a similar deal with NBC where she helped produce two TV movies. The Netflix project is a collaboration between Parton’s Dixie Pixie Productions, Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros Television.
“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Parton said in a statement. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”
Parton is the most celebrated female recording artist in country music. The Grammy-winning artist has had a record 26 songs hit No. 1 on the Billboard country charts, and she’s been nominated for Academy Awards, Emmys, and Golden Globes.
