Spoilers ahead for Supergirl season 3
The fourth season of Supergirl may look a bit different from what fans are used to, according to David Harewood, who recently hinted at the show and his character’s future.
“I won’t go into too many details but, at the end of this season, there are some changes,” he told the crowd at MCM Comic-Con in London. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how those changes play out. The question of how my character develops is wrapped up in that so I can’t go into too many details but, if you’re a J’onn J’onzz fan, you should be really looking forward to next season.”
And the show may be about to close out its third season, but Harewood’s favourite scene occurred way back in the first few episodes. He told the audience about his surprise at the reaction to the reveal that Hank Henshaw and J’onn J’onzz were one and the same.
“It’s just a great bit of writing and for weeks the audience didn’t know if I was Cyborg Superman or somebody else and it was really great seeing that debate on Twitter. I watched the next day and there were all these YouTube videos of people literally screaming as he was revealed.
“I didn’t realise quite how much this character was loved, and I don’t think he’s really been done in this detailed way on television. It’s really nice to be playing a popular character and bringing him to a modern screen. It’s a lot of fun.”
On the flipside, the actor admitted that he wasn’t so keen on his stint as Cyborg Superman last season, which he has been honest about in the past.
He continued: “I’ve been quite open about the fact that Cyborg Superman wasn’t really fleshed out fully, so it didn’t give me a great opportunity to explore the comic book lore of the character. It felt a little bolted on so it was tough for me to really get into the character.
“I really like playing the Martian Manhunter because he’s got a lot of soul, depth and character that it’s just really nice to play. It’s something you can really get your teeth into.”
