ITV has no plans for more Maigret…

The writing was perhaps on the wall last week when writer Stewart Harcourt officially signed up to pen a new TV series for Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer, but it’s now been confirmed via TV Wise that there are “no current plans” to bring us more Maigret.

The drama, once touted as a replacement for Poirot on ITV after they lost the rights to Agatha Christie’s work, starred Rowan Atkinson as detective Jules Maigret. Four episodes in total were adapted from the character’s myriad source material from author Georges Simenon – Maigret Sets A Trap, Maigret’s Dead Man, Maigret At The Crossroads, and Maigret In Montmarte – over two series on the channel.

Stewart Harcourt, who previously wrote for Miss Marple and Poirot before setting his mind to adapting Simenon’s work, will now be moving on to the currently-nameless Natalie Dormer project for FreemantleMedia, where the actress will play iconic Gone With The Wind star Vivien Leigh in a biographical series about her life and career.

More if we get it.
