As per rumours, Jamie Foxx is to play Spawn on the big screen…

The mooted reboot of Spawn has found its lead, and this is one that’s gone firmly with rumour.

Jamie Foxx had been earmarked as the leading candidate for the title role in the new movie, and he has indeed now signed on the dotted line to do so. The new film, which we hope is a substantive upgrade on the previous Spawn movie, is being directed by the creator of the character, Todd McFarlane. It’s McFarlane’s directorial debut too, and he’s kept the budget low in order to exercise creative control over the project. It’s likely to cost no more than $12m, before distribution and marketing.

The film itself has landed up at Blumhouse Pictures, also in line with that philosophy. An R-rated version of Spawn is expected to be delivered at the end of it all.

No word yet on further casting, or a release date. But this one is now clearly pressing forward.
