With over a billion dollars banked already for Avengers: Infinity War, and expectations that the film will cross $2bn before it’s done, there’s a strong likelihood that the new movie will be Marvel’s biggest yet at the box office. After that, too, there’s the small matter of Avengers 4 arriving next summer, that’ll more than likely repeat the same trick.
Next year’s Avengers movie is set to wrap up storylines that’ll have been threading through the movies for 11 years and counting. And after that? Well, in an earnings call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger has suggested a slightly different direction.
“We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we’ve plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade”, Iger revealed, echoing what Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had already pretty much confirmed.
However, Iger did throw in something we didn’t know: “I’m guessing we will try our hand at what I’ll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see more Avengers down the road. We just haven’t made any announcements about that”.
Intriguing. As you might expect, no further details were forthcoming. Let the speculation begin, though….
