20th Century Fox, understandably, seems emboldened by musicals at the moment. The company is still counting the cash that The Greatest Showman is bringing in, with the film finally now arriving on home formats. It’s also moved up its forthcoming Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, to a November release date. And now? It’s snapped up the film rights to the Monty Python hit stage musical, Spamalot.
Spamalot is based on the film Monty Python & The Holy Grail, and has proven a huge success on the stage. The film person is going to be penned by Eric Idle, who co-wrote the show. The Book Of Mormon (a musical that itself is rumoured for a film version in the future) director Casey Nicholaw is going to helm the movie. He also choreographed the original Broadway run of Spamalot, too.
Filming on the movie is due to start next spring, with Fox looking to fast-track the project. Casting work is due to begin shortly.
We’ll keep you posted…
