Warner Bros continues to expand its DC Extended Universe of films, with Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman 2, Batgirl, Birds Of Prey and Suicide Squad 2 all in various stages of development. But one film that keeps feeling a little further away is a direct sequel to 2013’s Man Of Steel.
Since that movie, Henry Cavill has reprised the role of Superman in both Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Justice League. But chatting at CinemaCon over the past few days, he’s confirmed that he’s still very keen to do a proper Man Of Steel follow-up.
“I’m having a lot of conversations, behind-the-scenes, with certain people and we will hopefully be having conversations with other people who are also behind-the-scenes to make things start happening”, he told Collider.
“It is very much in my desire to do a Man Of Steel 2, a direct sequel to Man Of Steel, and there is a whole bunch of Superman story that I want to tell. There is a whole style of Superman’s character that I’m very keen to tell and I’m looking forward to the opportunity”.
Sadly, there’s not been much news on the project aside from Cavill’s words of late. Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie for one has expressed interest in directing a new Superman movie, but it’s unclear as things stand if Warner Bros wants to pursue one.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
