Jason Statham has been chatting about the possibility of The Meg 2. And we have been listening.

Be calm our beating heart. There’s a film coming up later this year that we’re really rather looking forward to, where the mighty Jason Statham goes head to head with a 75 foot sea creature. It’s called The Meg, it arrives in cinemas in August, and we’ve already booked the day off work to celebrate.

But The Statham knows he’s being Santa to us here, and bringing us a gift-wrapped piece of cinematic joy. And chums – chums! – he’s teasing more gifts. Chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the project, he said that “I think it’s like anything in this day and age — if it makes money, there’s obviously an appetite to make more money. And if it doesn’t do well, they’ll soon sweep it under the carpet”.

“But that’s the way Hollywood works”, explained The Statham.

And friends, here comes the line that made our morning. “Everyone tries to make a good film, and it lies in the hands of the audience. People are the ultimate decider; the audience is the decider of whether anything gets to be a sequel or not”.

Everybody: it’s up to us. We are all part of the people. For what it’s worth, this part of the people right here would very much like The Meg 2. Just tell us where to send our money, and what day we need to book off.

The Meg opens on August 10th, is based on the novel by Steve Alten (of which there are many), and is directed by Jon Turteltaub.

It stars Jason Statham, in case we forgot to mention that.
