Ed Skrein will star opposite Angelina Jolie in the follow-up to Disney's smash fantasy hit, Maleficent.

After battling Deadpool, Ed Skrein will move on to fighting Angelina Jolie in Disney’s Maleficent sequel.

According to Variety, the one-time Daario Naharis is in negotiations to star opposite returning actors Jolie and Elle Fanning in the follow-up to the fantasy hit, a reimagining of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of that film’s villain. Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 director Joachim Ronning is set to serve behind the camera, working from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster (Transparent).

Character details for Skrein’s antagonist are being kept under wraps, as are story details. Will the sequel pick-up directly after the first film, or will it hew more closely to the source material? A sequel seemed inevitable, as Maleficent broke several box office records, eventually earning $758.5 million worldwide.

We will keep a close eye on this project as more details are released.
