Benedict Cumberbatch is about to be back on the small screen in Patrick Melrose, a five-part drama that will follow the eponymous character as he works through his alcoholism, heroin addiction, and childhood trauma to an eventual period of recovery. There’s marriage and parenthood somewhere in there, too.
The drama, which will air on Sky Atlantic here in the UK, was written by One Day‘s David Nicholls, as adapted from the Edward St. Aubyn novels. The series will be set in the south of France in the 1960s, New York in the 1980s, and the UK in the early naughts, with each episode covering a different St. Aubyn novel.
In addition to Cumberbatch, Patrick Melrose starsĀ Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hugo Weaving as his parents, Anna Madeley as his wife, Blythe DannerĀ as Aunt Nancy, and Allison Williams as an acquaintance.
