The latest Super Bowl teaser for the Pixar sequel reintroduces some old friends…

The toys are back in town this summer, and now we’ve got our first proper – albeit brief – look at Pixar’s much-anticipated sequel thanks to a TV spot that aired just after the 2019 Super Bowl.

Toy Story 4 follows Woody (Tom Hanks) and the gang on a road trip with their new owner Bonnie, where an unexpected detour to a fairground sees them reconnecting with long-lost pal Bo Peep (Annie Potts) – a much-loved character who was absent from Toy Story 3 and who apparently plays a pivotal role in the new movie.

As with previous sequels, this film will also introduce a bunch of new toys, including Ducky and Bunny – two fairground-prize plushes voiced by comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele (who is also currently carving out a niche for himself as a celebrated horror auteur).

You can watch the Super Bowl spot below…

As well as reintroducing the dulcet tones of series stalwart Randy Newman, the teaser shows off Bo’s more adventurous new look and sees Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) in a spot of bother – trapped on a fairground prize wall while being pestered by Key and Peele’s territorial Ducky and Bunny.

The film might be the third sequel, but it has at least got some new creative blood in the shape of writer Stephany Folsom and director Josh Cooley. A Pixar rising star who’s worked as a storyboard artist on the likes of The Incredibles and Ratatouille and who co-wrote the high-concept Inside Out, Toy Story 4 marks Cooley’s feature-length directorial debut.

Toy Story 4 opens in cinemas on 21 June 2019.
