What a wonderful place for an exorcism. The Exorcist season 2 will venture out of Chicago to a private island in the Pacific Northwest. And, in other news, Deadpool‘s has been cast as one of the female leads.
She will fit into a foster home storyline, on the island. One of the kids in the home is a demon who catches the attention of roving exorcists Tomas Ortega and Marcus Keane. Hildebrand will play Verity, a teen about to turn 18, who’s on her way out of the house.
Hildebrand recently starred in Kerem Sanga’s First Girl I Loved, and will reprise her role as Negasonic Teenage Warhead in the upcoming Deadpool 2. She will next be seen in Tragedy Girls, an independent dark comedy.
Fox’s The Exorcist TV series pulled in under 2 million viewers per episode during its first season, which cast some doubt on whether it would be renewed But the supernatural power of the fanbase compelled the network to break out the holy water to keep them at bay for another year.
The Exorcist creator Jeremy said he would have been satisfied with the first season, even if it ended up as a standalone.
“My goal was then that this first season needed to tell a story with a beginning, a middle and an end and that story was the possession of the Rance family,” Slater said. “So by the conclusion of [the season finale], you will get a satisfying ending to that story, as was my plan.”
The Exorcist season 1 was set in Chicago, 40 years after the Georgetown exorcisms. The series was more than just a TV adaptation of a beloved horror movie, and you can expect The Exorcist Season 2 will continue to play with expectations. For example most shows keep their core cast.
The Exorcist season 2 cast
John Cho (Star Trek, Sleepy Hollow, Selfie) will play Andrew Kim, a former child psychologist who runs a foster home on a private island in the Pacific Northwest for at-risk kids. Deadpool co-star Brianna Hildebrand will play troubled teen Verity. Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels and Kurt Egyiawan will be returning to brave the hell of series regular cast.
The Rance family at the center of The Exorcist series was dispatched and Geena Davis, Hannah Kasulka, Brianne Howey and Alan Ruck will not be back.
“A potential season two would find Marcus, Tomas and Bennett tasked with helping a new family or a new case of possession,” Slater told Bloody Disgusting last year. “Our challenge now is to create a new family that you care about just as much as the Rances, and to find ways to make their story feel just as compelling and unique as what came before.”
But, he cryptically added, “that doesn’t mean we’ll never see any of the Rances again.”
