Archie and the gang are coming back to The CW for Riverdale season 4!

Riverdale, perhaps more so than any other show on TV, is very comfortable in its own skin; season three has been a weird and wonderful experience, taking big risks on musical episodes and noir-thrillers and generally sticking the landing. The CW has rewarded these creative risks by picking up Riverdale for season 4. The network made the announcement during the Winter TCA Press Tour, confirming Archie and co’s return during the 2019 TV season.

Riverdale was just one of a host of shows renewed by The CW including Charmed, Legacies, Arrow, Black Lightning, Legends Of Tomorrow, Dynasty, The Flash, Riverdale, Supergirl, and Supernatural. The network also recently confirmed a Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene show.

Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW, said in a statement: “This season, we expanded our primetime schedule to six nights with the addition of Sunday — which has been an unqualified success for the network, our affiliates and our advertisers. In addition to growing our schedule across the week, we also continue to add more year-round programming. The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning. These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”

Based on characters from Archie Comics, Riverdale debuted in January 2017 and was a hit out of the gate for the network. The series’ stature only grew when the series hit Netflix after season one, leading to a ratings bump in season two.
