George A. Romero made a live-action trailer for the original Resident Evil 2, and now the remake has its own version…

Capcom has continued its promotional campaign for Resident Evil 2 by releasing a brand new trailer for the hotly anticipated horror remake. This freshly released trailer is a live action one, which was made with real-life actors that really look the part as Leon and Claire. And it is, in a way, a tribute to George A. Romero.

The legendary filmmaker, who passed away in 2017, was best known for his work on such iconic feature films as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. He was, essentially, the godfather of the modern world’s obsession with zombies. In between making such classic movies, Romero found the time to shoot the following advert for the original Resident Evil 2 game from 1998…

And now, the marketing team behind the new Resident Evil 2 have cooked up a new live-action trailer. Despite clearly having a bigger budget than Romero’s promo video from the 1990s, this new version is definitely cut from the same cloth. You can see it for yourself here…

Showcasing both Leon and Claire as they encounter zombies around Raccoon City, building up to a moment where they unexpectedly bump into each other, this trailer’s tributes will be obvious – and very enjoyable – if you watch both videos. This is a really sweet gesture from Capcom’s current generation of employees, who clearly hold the classic game and its surrounding materials in very high regard.

Resident Evil 2 is out now for PS4, Xbox One and Windows. You can find our review of the film here, and our breakdown of its most terrifying villain over here.
