Fighters, story details, gameplay footage and casting (hi Ronda Rousey!) has been revealed for Mortal Kombat 11

Warner Bros Games and NetherRealm Studios have lifted the lid on Mortal Kombat 11, with director Ed Boon sharing gameplay footage, details from the fighting roster and a big casting confirmation: as the rumour mill had suspected for a while, Ronda Rousey has indeed been cast in the role on Sonya Blade.

All these announcements came last night, at a special event dubbed Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal, which took place in LA and was streamed around the globe. Den Of Geek attended a huge fan event at Koko in Camden, where we saw the action unfold on-screen and had a brief hands-on experience with the game.

We can confirm that Mortal Kombat 11 is blood-splattered and brutal, and that the fighters in the game (each of whom have three costume variants, plus potential for unique user-made outfits) include Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Baraka, Skarlet and a newbie time-meddler named Geras. We also saw the opening cinematic cutscene, which picks up right where Mortal Kombat X left off.

Rousey, who’s known for her real-life bouts in UFC and WWE (and her performaces in Fast & Furious 7 and The Expendables 3), showed her clear passion for the Mortal Kombat franchise by showing up and oozing enthusiasm at the LA event, as well as appearing in this character reveal video:

It was this next video that genuinely made the crowd go wild, though. Whoops and cheers abounded during this bone-crunching gameplay reveal, which shows off a bunch of their characters and their unique approaches to kicking butt:

This ‘fatalities’ showcase went down pretty well, too, giving us a good idea of the sort of damage we’ll get to deploy every time we hear FINISH HIM:

It was also confirmed at the event that there will be a Mortal Kombat 11 Kollector’s Edition, complete with a wearable-in-real-life Scorpion mask and some snazzy gold-logo-on-black-background cover art.

Mortal Kombat 11 will arrive on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch on April 23rd 2019. The game is available for pre-order now, and everyone who pre-orders it will gain access to a closed beta that begins on March 28th.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
