Angelina Jolie may return as Maleficent after all, as the sequel is seemingly still on…

Following the sizeable success of the original, Disney was said to quickly be moving ahead with a sequel to its Sleeping Beauty-related Maleficent. The movie told the story of the villain from that story, and featured Angelina Jolie in the title role. Much money was made.

But then it’s been some time since we’ve heard a peep about the possible sequel, and as a result, it’d been assumed it had dropped off Disney’s roster. Yet that’s not the case, apparently. In fact, the studio is still keen to press ahead with the film, and it’s just hired Spectre co-writer Jez Butterworth to rewrite the screenplay for the movie. Linda Woolverton had penned the original draft.

Angelina Jolie hasn’t committed yet to a follow-up it seems, though, and her crowded schedule may yet be the deciding factor in whether this one happens or not. We’ll keep you posted, of course, as we hear more…
